Project Darwin
Defining the future for women’s cricket
Challenge
To capitalise on the growth of women’s sport through helping the domestic game drive performance and deliver financial sustainability.
Solution
Through consultation with ECB, we defined and socialised a vision, mission and set of clear objectives for the Women’s domestic game over the next 8 years to act as a framework for subsequent analysis and recommendations on the ideal ecosystem for the game.
As part of our recommendations, we analysed the current state of English women’s cricket relative both to other countries and the ECB’s long term aspirations, and defined and analysed a number of competition format options, including considerations around the number of games & teams and the level of integration with existing First Class Counties.
We also create a detailed cost-model to define the level of investment required over the next 8 years, including informing a number of key decisions such as the feasibility of equality in pay and prize money.
Impact
The ECB formally launched ‘Project Darwin’ in September 2023, including the wholesale adoption of TFG’s recommendations, as the cornerstone of their Women’s cricket strategy until 2031.
