Our Consulting Team works within our Commercial team and alongside our Data Science and Engineering teams to deliver best-in-class solutions to the full portfolio of our clients. The Senior Consultant role is fundamental to leading client project delivery and supporting a variety of commercial tasks related to winning work and internal commercial strategy.

Key Responsibilities

Project Delivery

  • Support the Senior Consultant and other commercial team members on client projects, including deliverable development, account management, and executing directly on analytical projects (see below for required technical skillset)
  • Lead projects from end-to-end delivery across a number of disciplines, from strategy and analytics to technology integration and direct-to-consumer propositions
  • Ensure the timely delivery of all client-based project milestones and key deliverables, including helping to lead and coordinate a project team of data scientists, technologists, and designers to ensure we deliver on time, to budget, and to the standard required of our clients

Business Development Support

  • Support Commercial Team in marketing & sales activities, including developing responses to leads & RFPs, proactive efforts specific to target markets as defined in our Go-To-Market strategy, and performing research to further inform our messaging and positioning, and other tasks as needed
  • Create opportunities for further consulting projects with clients by spending time on client due diligence, understanding what strategic questions are likely to be on their minds, and where we can help them 

Internal Initiatives

  • Support the Commercial team on any strategic initiatives as needed, e.g. financial planning and modelling, market research and thought leadership development, internal strategy projects

Requirements

Skills

  • A strong interest in sport – both an existing personal knowledge and a willingness to expand said knowledge in line with client delivery work
  • Strong core consulting skillset of project management / leadership, deck building (in Microsoft PowerPoint), quantitative analysis, etc. in a fast-paced, high-demand environment working across different business functions and capabilities
  • Strong Microsoft Excel / analysis skills is a requirement
  • Ability to utilise strategic thinking, frameworks, and experience to structure, articulate, and deliver recommendations. Demonstrated experience of this is a requirement
  • Ability to communicate analytical and technical concepts to clients from a non-analytical background by conducting analysis, extracting key messages, and presenting them to clients
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the commercial sports industry – key players, macro trends, business models, and commercial partnership approaches

Experience

  • Demonstrated experience in strategy / management consulting or similar
  • A baseline understanding of performance analytics methodologies, tech/product development processes, and data-driven insight creation is a requirement
  • Experience working in technology and/or analytics in a project management role is a nice-to-have 
  • Experience working in the sports + entertainment space, managing senior and functional client/account relationships and projects is a nice-to-have
  • Ability to work in-person in London on a weekly basis (we have a hybrid working model)

Scope and Impact

Predictive modelling and data are at the heart of our work. By utilising cutting-edge data science techniques, you will help us to deliver best-in-class solutions and insights to our clients, helping them to unlock the full potential of their data.

Your role will involve working alongside our consulting and technology teams to deliver on a range of key projects. You will also be helping to develop innovative new tools to unlock new areas of value for our clients. Our core sports are football and golf, but you’ll also be working on projects across other sports in the future.

Key Responsibilities

  • Translate client requirements into actionable outcomes, combining your sport domain knowledge with your analytical expertise to suggest practical and innovative solutions;
  • Help to solve complex problems for our clients through the development of data science solutions, employing both your ability to shape and analyze large datasets and your knowledge of machine learning techniques to solve the problem at hand;
  • Communicate data-driven insights through the use of data visualization and through interactive web apps such as Shiny;
  • Assist on the development of new statistical models and tools, and help to ensure our work remains at the forefront of the sports intelligence industry;
  • Optimize our processes for extracting and reshaping data from external sources.

Requirements

Data science

  • Programming proficiency in R or Python. Familiarity with SQL, interacting with databases, and Git version control.
  • Experience ingesting, cleaning and analysing large and complex datasets.
  • Good understanding of core statistical modelling techniques such as regression, classification, clustering. 
  • Experience in implementing machine learning algorithms and understanding of the model development process.
  • Strong use of data visualisation to present data in a clear, compelling and visually appealing manner.

Sports knowledge

  • Good knowledge of golf is an advantage.  Experience in other sports will also be considered.

Communication skills

  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to people from a non-analytical background.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of an agile team.
  • Ability to pull the story from the data and to confidently articulate the key messages to clients.

This Software Developer’s role will be focused around brilliant development of software which can be broken down into timely development of high quality code that will stand the test of time by creating value for our partners, such as The United States Golf Association who received a significant uptick in their engagement as part of our Win Probability tool and UEFA for whom we power the Fedex Performance Zone as well as working on our proprietary tool that are used by some of the biggest teams in football and elite touring golf pros.

Some key aspects we look for will be:

  • Scalable – Be able to extend functionality without the cost of doing so being exponential over time/features.
  • Be easy to pass on to others – Projects must be possible to interpret and understand in case that other developers are added to the project.
  • Impactful – The solution would set an example for other developers to rely on.

The above should result in a perceived notion of ‘It just works’ by people outside of the development team.
