Compelling football in a sustainable environment
Challenge
We were asked to identify a new competition structure that maximised compelling football and leverages Belgian football’s strengths, while providing clubs with a foundation for strategic freedom and financial sustainability.
Solution
We formulated a revised competition format that brings the Pro League closer together across two divisions, creating a more compelling competition at all levels, from championship to relegation. We also developed a revised revenue distribution mechanism to go alongside the new format that supports each club’s individual strategy.
Impact
The Pro League General Assembly has granted approval to continue exploring the new format alongside wider Pro League strategic initiatives.
